Carlow Town Cricket is making a come back
The Carlow Cricket Club was originally established in 1831 on the grounds of Carlow Rugby Club. There has been local interest shown to restart the club and get cricket played again in Carlow town. Under the Carlow Intercultural Forum and with the support of the Carlow Rugby Club and agencies such as St. Catherine’s Community Services Centre, County Carlow Sports Partnership, Carlow County Council, Carlow Youth Services, Cricket Ireland, Unum Ireland, the process of re-introducing Cricket to Carlow town started.
On the 24th May 2011, Carlow Cricket Club held a free open day where adults and children attended the beginnings of a new Carlow Cricket Club. Qualified
coaches were on hand to run the session. From there a junior (from 7 to 12 years) group and a senior (13 years to adult) group began training each week over the summer period.
As the weeks moved on the numbers attending the club grew and a committee evolved. Games took place against Portlaoise Cricket Club and Sandyford Cricket Club. Training has now finished up but we will be back for our second season next year. If you are interested in being involved or would like to put your name on a contact list to be informed when we start back next year please contact
