A late late try from sub Paraic Brennan gained a losing bonus point for Carlow when they went down at home by 10 points to 14 against Clondalkin, a team they had beaten 21 -15 in the away fixture last September.  However Carlow were deprived of six regular first team starters plus a further three injuries during Sunday’s game; - including number 10 Paddy Barcoe early in the match and Barry Purcell and Damian Murphy in the final quarter.
Clondlakin scored first with a well worked try in the corner. The conversion was missed. Carlow replied with a Barry Purcell penalty to make it 3 pts to 5. Another Clondalkin penalty meant Carlow started the second half 3 – 8 in arrears. Early Carlow second half pressure on the Clondalkin line yielded nothing. Instead Clondalkin nailed two well taken penalties during forays into Carlow territory putting them 14 -3 ahead.
This looked like being the final tally until Paraic Brennan, on the field for less than 10 minutes, finished a good forward rumble by grounding near the posts. Chris Bolger converted and the final whistle was blown at Carlow 10, Clondalkin 14.
