Carlow U15s secured a league semi-final place with a strong away win in Dundalk. Three tries from Chris Fawcett, Tim O’Byrne and Cuan Anthony saw Carlow establish an early 15 point lead. Dundalk gained a foothold in the match before half time, and two tries early in the second half saw the home team close to within three points of the visitors. With Conor Treacy dominating the line out thanks to accurate throwing-in by Dylan Byrne and Danny Murphy, however, Carlow were able to exploit territorial advantage to score two more tries through Richard Whelan and Anthony, putting the result beyond doubt. In Carlow’s best periods early and late in the match they put together good sequences of phase play with quick recycling and good ball movement well marshalled by scrum half Conor Holohan. While the Dundalk team featured a number of strong ball carriers who tested the tackling technique of the Carlow players on several occasions, the defensive organisation and discipline of the away team proved enough to see them through.
